In addition to imparting broad business acumen, many MBA programs are focusing on how to prepare the future technology business leaders of the world by adding tech-specific elements to their educations. If you\u2019re considering a future career that leverages disruptive technology (think robotics, artificial intelligence\/machine learning, quantum computing, and human-computer interaction), then consider the following programs.\u00a0 Note that we\u2019ve intentionally addressed blockchain and crypto-related resources in a separate blog post.<\/p>\n<p>The best place to start your search is by looking at \u201ctech MBAs.\u201d These programs are designed for individuals who want comprehensive classroom and experiential learning opportunities in both business and tech:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stern.nyu.edu\/programs-admissions\/tech-mba\/program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NYU Stern\u2019s Andre Koo Tech MBA<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 This 12-month program (May to May) is STEM designated with a strong business and technology balance and also integrates experiential learning to solve real-world challenges. Tech-specific courses include \u201cEmerging Technologies\u201d and \u201cFoundations of Networks and Mobile Systems.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kellogg.northwestern.edu\/programs\/full-time-mba\/mbai-program.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Kellogg MBAi<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Preparing leaders in technical operations, product management, product marketing, and consulting, this newly launched program boasts class offerings such as \u201cComputational Thinking for Business Leaders,\u201d \u201cArtificial Intelligence Theory and Practice,\u201d \u201cMachine Learning for Business,\u201d \u201cHuman Computer Interaction and Design Thinking,\u201d \u201cSynthetic Biology,\u201d \u201cRobotics,\u201d and \u201cNatural Language Processing.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tech.cornell.edu\/programs\/masters-programs\/johnson-cornell-tech-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cornell Johnson Tech MBA<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 This STEM-designated tech MBA is a one-year, full-time residential program. After 13 intensive weeks in Ithaca, NY, students shift to the Cornell Tech campus in New York City and mix hands-on learning with class-based work. Student also have the option of participating in treks.While we\u2019re on the topic of Cornell Johnson, the school\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnson.cornell.edu\/programs\/full-time-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-year MBA program<\/a> also offers abundant opportunities for learning and gaining experience with disruptive technologies. The Entrepreneurship &amp; Innovation and Technology Product Management areas of focus include ample courses on disruptive technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/foster.uw.edu\/academics\/degree-programs\/technology-management-mba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Washington Foster Technology Management MBA (TMMBA)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 This 18-month program is an accelerated path for working professionals. Plus, the school is based in Seattle, a hub for emerging tech and tech giants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the tech MBAs listed here, most traditional MBA programs involve some element of technology leadership preparation in their student experience. For example, almost every program has student-led tech clubs, while some offer tech-focused treks, events, and competitions. To focus more on disruptive and emerging technologies (not traditional technology, operational tech, etc.), the following programs have gone a step further with their curriculum, resources, and program elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.edu\/tepper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Carnegie Mellon \u2013 Tepper<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 The school\u2019s entire full-time program is STEM designated. Students can leverage cross-campus academic experiences with other areas of Carnegie Mellon, including the School of Computer Science and the Software Engineering Institute. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.edu\/tepper\/programs\/mba\/curriculum\/tracks\/technology-leadership.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology Strategy and Product Management<\/a> track involves courses that deal with human-computer interaction, machine learning, the Internet of Things, blockchain, digital transformation, and the future of work technologies.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mitsloan.mit.edu\/mba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MIT Sloan<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 <\/strong>\u201cMIT Sloan is about invention,\u201d declares the school\u2019s site, and the program qualifies as STEM designated. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/entrepreneurship.mit.edu\/mba-entrepreneurship-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Entrepreneurship &amp; Innovation Track<\/a> is not solely for technology-focused students, it includes the foundational course \u201cIntroduction to Technological Innovation\u201d and the tech transformation course \u201cRevolutionary Ventures.\u201d There are also experiential learning opportunities such as the Silicon Valley Study Tour. Rest assured, MIT lives up to its name (the Massachusetts Institute of <em>Technology<\/em>) with a strong curriculum to help its students prepare as leaders on the cutting edge.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccombs.utexas.edu\/MBA\/Full-Time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>UT Austin McCombs<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Fourteen of the school\u2019s 22 full-time MBA concentrations are STEM certified, including High Tech Marketing (with the course \u201cMarketing High-Tech Products\u201d) and CleanTech. In addition, several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccombs.utexas.edu\/Centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">centers and initiatives<\/a> stand at the intersection of business and tech, including the Blockchain Initiative and the Center for Analytics and Transformative Technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>University of Chicago Booth School of Business<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 <\/strong>The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation offers multiple experiential learning opportunities. <a href=\"https:\/\/polsky.uchicago.edu\/fab-lab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Fab Lab<\/a>, for example, has 2D and 3D design workshops and materials for prototyping. Forming partnerships with the broader University of Chicago\u2019s deep technical expertise, this is the place to get your hands dirty and change the world with breakthrough technologies. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/research\/center-for-applied-artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence<\/a> is where transformative AI projects incubate, and the center organizes multiple events and posts opportunities to engage. Booth continues to build its emerging technology footprint and recently launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobooth.edu\/why-booth\/stories\/nations-first-quantum-startup-accelerator-launches-at-uchicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the nation\u2019s first quantum startup accelerator (Duality)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuck.dartmouth.edu\/mba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dartmouth Tuck<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Students looking at careers in tech should start with the <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalstrategies.tuck.dartmouth.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glassmeyer\/McNamee Center for Digital Strategies<\/a>, which has robust expertise in several tech-focused areas, including technology and innovation, digital business models, digital society, and enterprise transformation. There are ample learning opportunities and programming for the MBA community, including MBA Fellows and Associates.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/michiganross.umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Michigan Ross<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 With courses such as \u201cA Brief Introduction to Computing Technologies: Crypto, AI, Quantum\u201d and a small (compared to San Francisco, at least) but mighty local tech scene, aspiring tech leaders will find fantastic opportunities in Ann Arbor. While Ross has multiple tech clubs, one in particular stands out: <a href=\"https:\/\/ross.campusgroups.com\/fitx\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FitX<\/a>, which focuses on \u201cthe intersection of fitness, health, wellness, innovation and technology.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wharton.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>University of Pennsylvania Wharton<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 A highlight experience for Wharton students aspiring to pursue emerging tech is the <a href=\"https:\/\/mba-inside.wharton.upenn.edu\/semester-in-san-francisco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Semester in San Francisco<\/a>, which tends to be focused on entrepreneurship and technology. Courses such as \u201cAI in Business\u201d and \u201cEnabling Technologies\u201d keep Wharton students on the leading edge. Also, many students undertake internships in Silicon Valley and enjoy career treks and site visits with companies in emerging technology.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hbs.edu\/mba\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Harvard Business School<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Of course, HBS is preparing the tech leaders of tomorrow.
